Added to Etsy This Week

The following items were added to my Etsy shop this week.

Obviously, I've been on a card-making kick. And truly, is there anything better than receiving a handwritten card in the mail? In this age of facebook, email, twitter & texts, it seems to be a long lost art.

So why not pick up a pen, open a card & send a message to someone special. Even if it's just to say "hello".

The View From Here

The glorious beach.

For the first time this summer, I went to a beach here in Chicago. I'm not exactly sure what took so long, it's August 24th for crying out loud, the summer's almost over!

You can't beat this view while soaking in some sun, can you?

In February, when I'm sick of the cold and snow, maybe I'll revisit this post. And after daydreaming about blue skies & even bluer water, I'll promise myself that I won't do that again...I'll hit the beach much sooner than late August!

Washington, DC

I recently went to Washington, DC. It was a spur of the moment trip with a couple of my cousins to visit another cousin who lives there.

Washington is a great place with tons to do, if you have tons of time. It seems every time I go, there is so much to do, but never enough time to do it all. Here's what we did in the 2 1/2 days we spent there.

Tuesday: Lilith Fair in Columbia, MD

One of my cousins was touring with Lilith Fair as part of her job. It pays to know the right people...she was able to get us great seats to see the concerts, including Sarah McLachlan.

Wednesday: Museums, Monuments & Memorials

We spent the afternoon being true tourists.

Don't ask me what buildings these are, I don't remember! They all started looking the same after a while.

We had hoped to walk around & discover more of the city, but it was so HOT. So we stayed inside the museums as much as possible. Apparently, that was everyone's plan because they were really crowded.

National Museum of Natural History

Julia Child & her kitchen

First Lady Dresses

The Supremes' dresses, Carol Burnett Show costume,
Dorothy's ruby slippers, Fonzie's jacket

We decided to go see the monuments & memorials at night. It's much cooler, not as crowded & the views are spectacular.

World War II Memorial

Lincoln Memorial

Thursday: Georgetown & more monuments

I loved Georgetown! We didn't spend a lot of time there & most of the afternoon on Thursday was stormy. But I was able to explore the streets a little and get some pictures. Next time I go, I'm definitely spending more time here.

If you've seen the TLC show "DC Cupcakes", this is the storefront to Georgetown Cupcakes. We tried to get a cupcake, but as you can see, the line was really long.

But we did go to an Ethiopian restaurant and had a great meal

We also tried to go up into the Washington Monument, but because of the stormy weather, it was closed. So we walked through the other monuments instead.
